Application for Global Trade Item Number（GTIN）
Playing an important role in products management,Global Trade Item Number has shorten the commucation distance between supplier and seller.Nowadays,it has been frequently used in not only supermarkets and department stores,but also in the process of import and export.
Here in Hong Kong,as a non-profit membership based commercial supporting organization,GS1 Hong Kong is the only organization authorized by the international Article Numbering Associationl to issue EAN,UCC identification numbers(so-called e-ID in Hong Kong).

Information Required for Global Trade Item Number Application
• .A completed GS1 Hong Kong Full Membership application form
• A copy of your company's Business Registration Certificate
• Proof of employee headcount such as an employee insurance documentation or MPF certificate
• Products catalog

Time to Take
Applications normally take three working days to process upon receipt of the completed application form, relevant documents

Global Trade Item Number Overview 
Each good with different styles, colors, sizes, weight, smell or packaging should be assigned a separate product reference number.After puting relevant data into the "Hong Kong e-ID Registry(an online database aims at supporting data exchange between company with their business partners by using data format under international standard) Registrar will assign product reference number and calculate check digit automaticly, then you can have your barcode assigned printed out by assign certain barcode printing suppliers.
For example,format for GTIN-13 is:
489 MMMMM III C
489 =Prefix for GS1 Hong Kong
M = Reference number assigned by GS1 Hong Kong to full membership company,make up by 4 to 6 digits
I = Reference number created by member,make up by 3 to 5 digits
C = Check digit calculated by Modulo-10 program,could be used for online check digit service of GS1 or asking assistance from printing suppliers.
